(DOMAIN B) - The UK automobile industry has recovered after collapsing during the global recession as production increased eighth month in a row, rising by 28.6 per cent in June compared to the same period last year.

The June increase was despite the UK government ending its car scrappage scheme in March, showing that the car industry is maintaining growth momentum after production levels fell to a 25-year low last year.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) yesterday said that a total of 117,938 cars were produced in June 2010, an increase by 28.6 per cent and was up 55 per cent in the first six months compared to the same period last year.

Although production increased for the eighth month in a row, the rate was slower than the 54 per cent rise seen in May.

Commercial vehicle output rose 24.9 per cent in June to 10,656 units and 49.6 per cent in first six months to 64,606 units, while engine production was up 18.1 per cent in June to 237,655 units and 35.3 per cent over the year-to-date to 1.27 million units, said the SMMT.

With help from sponsors like CertainTeed Corporation, the Calistoga Half Mile National (CHMN) management team gets the “green” flag for their environmentally friendly initiatives at this year’s American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Grand National Championship event.

From online ticket sales, encouragement of travel by motorcycle to the event, recycling of bottles and cans on-site as well as solar and sustainable energy sources to power the event — the CHMN management team has the ideal ingredients for a green event.

“CertainTeed Corporation is honored to be part of a great motorcycle racing spectacle and is thrilled to have a strong ally in the American Motorcyclist Association,” says Eric Nilsson, vice president of corporate marketing for CertainTeed Corporation. “The Calistoga Half Mile National is an exhilarating event with dedicated fans and we’re proud to be able to share our passion for sustainability with them.”

On July 31, the Calistoga Speedway at the Napa County Fairgrounds, Napa, Calif., will host the AMA Grand National Championship featuring Pro Single and Expert Twin class racing. The all-day, family-friendly event gives fans the opportunity to leisurely view the motorcycles on display and numerous vendor booths, all culminating in the evening with one of the most thrilling races in motorsports.

“This year’s event is unique because it’s green. We wanted to reduce the carbon footprint of the CHMN, and are doing so by bringing sustainable initiatives to the American motorcycling family in every detail of the event,” says Bob Bellino, a member of the CHMN management team. “CertainTeed was the ideal partner to help us promote sustainability as they have a strong track record as a responsible steward of the environment. We are excited to have them as our presenting sponsor and their support to make this event possible.”

Kemp, Texas (PRWEB) July 15, 2010

Marine environments are tough on security cameras. High humidity, moisture, salt and other contaminants render most security cameras useless after only a few months of exposure. However one company; Rugged Marine, designs and builds low cost security cameras that not only survive in all types of marine environments, but actually thrive in the harsh conditions found on the waterfront or at sea. Rugged Marine has just introduced a new marine security camera called the Neptune Waterproof Dome Camera. This waterproof marine camera owes it’s longevity to a special formulation of UV-Resistant ABS plastic that thwarts rust and corrosion.

“Most manufacturers of marine-grade security cameras focus mainly on stainless steel construction because it is a proven material for marine environments”, says Allen Spears, Chief Engineer for Rugged Marine, a manufacturer of marine security cameras, “But the typical cost of stainless steel marine security cameras are astronomical.” he says. “Our marine customers no longer have unlimited budgets in this economy, and are continually seeking lower cost alternatives that will still stand up to the rigors of marine life. So, our mandate is to manufacture low cost marine cameras that are impervious to rust or corrosion.”

The Neptune Waterproof Dome Camera is an Ultra High Resolution Dome Camera that is rated to IP68 standards, and will stand up to anything that life on the water can throw at it.

The result is the Neptune Digital Dome Camera from Rugged Marine. The Neptune is Rustproof, Waterproof, Weatherproof, Corrosionproof and Chemical-Resistant. The Neptune Dome accomplishes these tasks in a variety of ways. First, the camera body is cast with a special formula ABS plastic that is impregnated with UV and Rust inhibitors. Then, the camera and lens cavity is protected from water or moisture incursion with a special double O-Ring seal.

The Neptune packs an amazing 580 lines of Resolution in a small, but tough package. It also has a Manual Zoom lens that is adjustable from 4mm to 9mm, allowing you to fine-tune for any view you need. The Neptune is ceiling mounted – indoors or out. The Neptune can be mounted on boats, ships, marinas, docks, car washes, waterparks, trains, trucks or anywhere you find wet or wash-down environments.

This is no dumb security camera though. There are brains behind the beauty. The Neptune Dome employs a technologically advanced High Resolution, Day/Night Sony 1/3” Super HAD II CCD camera module, married to a Sony HQ1 Digital Signal Processor (DSP), that gives the camera a whole host of light-handling features. Neptune is equipped with Automatic Gain Control (AGC), Automatic White Balance (AWB), and Backlight Compensation (BLC) functions that are all built-in and fully automatic.

The Neptune Dome camera features Sony’s WDR light control (Wide Dynamic Range), technology that will automatically boost low-light scenes and tone down any bright lighting or glare.

The Neptune Dome is in use at a wide variety of businesses, boats, marinas and docks all over the world. Feedback from purchasers and installers has been overwhelmingly positive. They like the high tech features and the flawless digital video, but they seem to be truly impressed with the low cost. Rugged Marine has priced the Neptune Dome Security Camera barely above $100. That is an absolutely amazing price for a marine camera – especially one that comes with a Two-Year Warranty. The Neptune is the lowest priced completely submersible dome camera on the marine market to date. There is no other IP68 rated marine camera out there for this price. The Neptune Dome Camera also has CE, FCC and RoHS certification.

Founded in 1993, Rugged Marine is a leading manufacturer of innovative security cameras and DVR’s for businesses and properties of all types.

Rugged Marine is a registered trademarks or trademarks of Rugged CCTV in the United States and/or other countries.

Collective Bias’ goal is to help Murphy USA execute against their shopper marketing goals in this new age of social media and mobile technologies. In particular, Collective Bias is leveraging Whrrl’s new cutting-edge new social loyalty program - Society Rewards – to help Murphy USA close the gap between their online social media and real-world presence. When customers check in with Whrrl at one of Murphy USA’s 1,100 locations nationwide, they will be accepted into the “Murphy USA Society” and earn a chance to immediately win $50 worth of free gas.

Collective Bias is also integrating Murphy USA’s iPhone and Android mobile applications into existing social media programs. This includes an SMS service to alert users when gas prices at its stations will rise within a few hours, allowing them to refuel before the price increases. When consumers are on the road, they can use the mobile apps or SMS service to locate the best gas prices in an area, even if they aren’t at a Murphy USA station.

“Utilizing a fully integrated social and digital platform to connect to its customers is a great way for Murphy USA to stand out among other gas and convenience retail chains,” said Brad Lawless begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting, director of brand strategy for Collective Bias, “By using technology on their terms, we’re helping Murphy USA provide value to their customers.”

“I never thought I would use mobile-based coupons,” said Melissa Garcia, who helps consumers save money at ConsumerQueen.com and also serves as a group leader in the closed community Collective Bias maintains for Murphy USA. “Because I work now, I don’t have as much time to clip. Being able to shop on a moment’s notice and save is invaluable. By using Murphy USA mobile applications and services, I always save money no matter where I am or what I’m doing.”

Collective Bias is helping Murphy USA build relationships its advocate community through a proprietary social networking site, where social media influencers provide input on topics such as where they buy gas and the retailer’s new energy drink, Red Strike. Murphy USA actively engages and interacts with its customers and fans through Facebook and Twitter. Facebook and Twitter fans were given a coupon for a free drink. Over 440 coupons have been redeemed, and sales for Red Strike are steadily on the rise as a result.

“We know that our customers use a variety of technology platforms daily, and we wanted to provide value to them across all these platforms,” said Casey Petersen, Internet Business Specialist for Murphy USA. “By giving them access to discounts, specials and information on the lowest gas prices, we’re taking mobile apps beyond the cute but dispensable game, and providing a useful service to consumers.”

Gymkhana Grid and Ken Block launch the Ken Block Gymkhana Invitational!

(PRWEB) July 7, 2010 — In 2008, Ken Block shook up the automotive world with Gymkhana Practice–the first in a series of viral videos. Seventy million views later, Block has teamed up with the Gymkhana Grid series to bring the action to you live. Starting with two events in 2010, these races will be lined with purpose-built, high-powered machines, piloted by some of the world’s biggest names in motorsport, pitted against each other in a heads-up race against the clock. The courses (co-designed by Block himself) are guaranteed to provide big smoke, long slides, excessive speeds and a challenge to all who battle for the crown.

“Ever since we filmed the first Gymkhana clip, I’ve been itching to not only get my professional racing friends to be able to come and play with me in this incredibly fun, sideways and technical motorsport, but also to make it possible for amateur drivers to participate, too ” says Block. “And Gymkhana Grid does exactly that.”

Founded by Christopher Willard, the Gymkhana Grid series seeks to be more than a one-off event. With years of organizing track days under his belt, as well as co-founding the Redline Time Attack series, Christopher shared Ken’s passion for the sport and sought his expertise on course design, as well as overall rules and regulations. The two then presented the Gymkhana Grid Invitational, as well as an inaugural grassroots event.

The first event, being held August 7-8th in Hollywood Park, CA, will feature pro and amateur racers competing head to head, and testing the course layout with anything from a rear-driven sports car to all-wheel-drive sedans. For those new to the sport, there will be workshops and schools to help grow the awareness of gymkhana on the grassroots level.

Then, on December 3-4th, the first Gymkhana Grid Ken Block Invitational will kick off at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, CA. Competitors will range from rally racers like Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra, to drifters like Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Tanner Foust. This will be the first event of its kind, promising to not only provide competitors with a new and exciting racing format, but also to give spectators a true all-out, tire smoking, sideways sliding race. And all of this is just a glimpse of what will be coming from Gymkhana Grid in 2011.

Ken Block brought the term “Gymkhana” to the masses through viral videos such as Gymkhana Practice (2008), and Gymkhana Two: The Infomercial (2009). These two videos set the standard as to what Ken saw as a modern interpretation of a traditional form of racing, and in turn gained tens of millions of views worldwide. With its origins dating back to a style of horse racing (also known as gymkhana), the sport requires not only physical driving skills, but mental training as well. Courses are set up with both precision driving and high speed in mind, with a pre-determined sequence of drifts, figure 8s, donuts, and slaloms that the driver must memorize.

While the sport of gymkhana has a niche following in countries such as Japan and England, Gymkhana Grid introduces much bigger courses designed for high-powered cars and versatile drivers who can call upon a varied list of motoring skills, from drifting, rally racing and road racing.

The Estonian entrepreneur, president of the Estonian Autosport Union, big fan of auto sport and sponsor of Fat Burner Racing Engineering team (GP2) through his trademark Fat Burner, Margus Reinsalu, is happy after a great weekend for Estonian auto sport where the Estonian Formula Renault 3.5 series driver Sten Pentus got two podium spots in a row.

Tallinn, Estonia (PRWEB) July 7, 2010 – Following the last two rounds of the championship which proved both disappointing and difficult for Fortec Motorsport and Sten Pentus, last weekend brought a positive turn.

In Saturday’s qualifying race, all cars were set up to run the obligatory low downforce and with high track temperatures, tyre management for the session was critical with Sten posting his best laps at the end of the session to grab an excellent 4th place for Saturday “low downforce” race.

Red Bull Junior Daniel Ricciardo took a dominant pole position over half a second ahead of Championship leader Mikail Aleshin and Red Bull Junior Brendan Hartley who edged Sten by only two tenths and half a tenth respectively.

Despite starting on the dirtier side of the grid in the actual race, Sten made an excellent start for the run to the first corner and positioned himself perfectly to pass Hartley around the outside into turn 1, immediately latching onto second placed Aleshin’s tail. While Ricciardo soon began to open out a lead on Aleshin, Sten was forcing the Russian to work very hard to hold onto second. Just as Sten’s rhythm was building and the pressure on Aleshin increasing, the Safety Car was deployed to retrieve a car from a dangerous position. At the re-start Sten resumed his attack for second but in the process quickly lost rear tyre performance and began to fall away to then come under pressure for the remainder of the race from a charging Brendon Hartley. Sten and Brendon turned in a great display of close quarter driving providing a scintillating last lap as they raced side by side to the checkered flag, with Sten taking the final podium position by 1.4 seconds from the young Red Bull F1 test and reserve driver.

On Sunday, with the downforce level for this race left to the teams discretion, the team increased downforce for qualifying which produced a different mix of pacesetters at the front with Ricciardo and Hartley struggling to get the Tech1 cars competitive compared to the Saturday speed, while Aleshin was again looking strong and 2009 EuroCup Champion Albert Costa impressing. For most of the session Sten did not feature in the top ten, but he turned in a stunning performance on his last lap to take a sensational pole position, the only driver to break into the 1 minute 32 second bracket with a time of 1.32.957. Behind Sten, Costa (1.33.069) and Ferrari Academy driver Daniel Zampieri (1.33.118) filled second and third on the grid, with Saturday winner Ricciardo placed seventh and Hartley tenth.

In the actual race, Sten made a perfect start from his pole position to lead unchallenged into turn 1 and by the end of the lap had already opened a comfortable gap to second placed Costa with Aleshin and Greg Mansell right behind. Sten continued to open out an unchallenged lead which allowed him to make his mandatory tyre stop and resume in the lead which he then stretched to over 6.5 seconds when the race was “red-flagged” with a lap remaining because Hartley’s Tech1 car was blocking the track at turn 3.

It was an almost perfect performance with pole position and a dominant win with only fastest lap missing from Sten’s Sunday successes, “Everything went perfectly today and I’m really happy to get my second win of the season. After qualifying I felt confident we could have a really good race, but everything turned out better than I could have imagined. It’s great to have such a good weekend to go into the summer break, and I’m really looking forward to the last three rounds of the championship. The Team worked brilliantly all weekend, my engineer gave me a great car, and the result is a great reward for all the effort everybody has made”.

Sten now lies third in the Championship standings with 69 points behind Aleshin who leads with 97 points and Ricciardo on 86 points.

Denver, Colorado (PRWeb) July 3, 2010 — The Mobility Conquest, a sleek motorcycle trike designed for the wheelchair-bound, will make its debut July 4-9 at the National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games in Denver.

The Conquest offers stylish freedom for the wheelchair-bound driver with challenges from the waist down who wants to still enjoy the thrill of riding a cycle on the open road. The Conquest offers convenience, maneuverability and safety to a driver. It also offers independence as entry into the trike is easy with the driver remaining in his/her own wheelchair and gliding up the built-in, rear ramp. The trike then safely locks into place for a smooth ride. The Mobility Conquest is dedicated to providing handicapped persons who have a love of the road and desire to reconnect with the sport following disability.

The trike is fully road and track tested and complies with U.S. safety standards. A BMW engine allows the trike to accelerate to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. Six hand-controlled forward gears plus reverse and keyless entry are standard on all Conquests. Each trike can be tailored to individual needs and other options are also available. An added benefit: each trike can comfortably accommodate a passenger. Uniquely designed front and rear suspension help to avoid any changes to driving or handling due to the increased weight of a passenger. Another benefit is that a service animal may also ride along.

Adaptive AutoMobility – owned by Kevin Durban – is an authorized dealer of the Conquest motorcycle with showrooms in Denver and Colorado Springs.
